Brutus is the fuzzy best friend of Casey Anderson, the director of the Montana Grizzly Encounter and host of National Geographic’s America the Wild. Casey raised Brutus since birth, and you have to question whether Brutus even considers himself a bear (my guess is no). The furry friend was the best “man” in Casey’s wedding and attends Thanksgiving dinners at Casey’s house, to name a few things they do together. Today, visitors can meet Brutus at the Montana Grizzly Encounter and learn about other grizzly bears up close in a safe and beautiful mountain setting.
When I visited Brutus, the weather was terrible with rain and harsh wind. The yard was muddy, and the bear was hungry and grumpy. Photo tip: If the natural elements aren’t coming together, learn as much as you can about the main subject. While I was taking pictures I kept asking questions about the bears to the great handlers at the Grizzly Encounter. From our conversation, I learned that Brutus knew how to perform many tricks. The handlers asked him to do one and he happily struck a pose, which allowed me to take this fun photo of him despite the dreary weather.
